The sign is a simple one. Even if you were wandering down this particular back alley of Charmonde, it would be easy to miss. Its small size and gray synth background almost blends into the wall it hangs from. But if you did see it, you’d find that the black text is clearly painted onto its surface, as is the arrow pointing to the narrow wooden door beside it.
It’s rare that someone finds that door, and rarer still for someone to open it. But the individual beyond is patient, and is willing to wait until she finds exactly the right people for this particular job.
And really, she thinks, it’s a simple job. Nothing to it at all.
It’s the perfect test job to evaluate whether an explorer is ready for more. And the Proctors agree with her. The fact that so many others have died trying to pass this first trial is a mystery to her.
